I'm sorry to read of her horrible fate. <br /><br />I think that the first English translation of Sentimental Education was by D. F. Hannigan published in a gorgeous two-volume edition in 1898. Astonishingly, this version is now available in the Barnes and Noble Classics paperback series. The translation has been "revised throughout" by Kathleen Rustum. I haven't read it yet, but I wonder if it is the "closest" to the English equivalent of the style and language of Flaubert's day. <br /><br /> Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
